Finding suitable caregivers for your children is a daunting task. The options for childcare in the region suit all budgets and preferences. With full and part-time programs, commercial and in-home providers the options are endless. Because your children may just spend more time with their caregiver than you, it is vital you do the research to ensure your child has the right match.

The best place to start your search is the ‘Early Years’ website from the Ontario Government. It provides listings of registered providers for Durham Region, as well as specific municipalities. Visit www.ontarioearlyyears.ca.

Child care fee assistance
Certain families are eligible for child care assistance through the Region of Durham. To apply for this child care subsidy, you must telephone the Children’s Services Division at its central office at (905) 666-6238 or 1-800-387-0642. The intake clerk will obtain basic information, and your family will be placed on the wait list.
 
Co-operative PlaySchools
These organizations offer children of stay-at-home or work-from-home moms the opportunity to socialize and learn on a part-time schedule. Usually offering morning or afternoon programs, these are also quite affordable, ranging in price from $70 to $90 per month. Many of these require the assistance of member parents to help with certain administrative tasks or to provide supplies.
