Trafalgar Castle School: a place for girls to grow
Spirit, enthusiasm, achievement and effort - these words aptly describe the attributes that each Trafalgar Castle School student will acquire in her years at the school. She truly will acquire success, for life.
Founded as Ontario Ladies’ College in 1874 by the Methodist Church of Canada, Trafalgar Castle School guides girls from Grade 6 to university entrance to develop character and foster a tremendous sense of community. Students are consistently encouraged to find that balance between the individual and their education.
Small classes and supportive teaching staff ensure the girls will ask questions and be heard.
Trafalgar Castle School has a student residence population from diverse backgrounds including Mexico, Korea, Spain, China, as well as from coast to coast. International students interact well with their residence counterparts and day students while forming long-lasting friendships.
“Our students will tell you that the friendships they make at the school both in the residential and day population are life-long and form a very strong network connection through their high school, university years and beyond.”
New for the 2009-2010 school year is a five-day boarding option where students can enjoy all the benefits of boarding life and the comfort of home on weekends.
While Academics are very important at Trafalgar, so too are Athletics and extra-curricular activities.
“Our program provides initiatives in a broad variety of areas. Daily access to our fitness centre for all students and staff ensures that we are providing excellent opportunities to create a healthy active lifestyle for our community.”
Parents might ask: why send your daughter to an all-girls school, and the answer is simple. At Trafalgar, every girl has a stage and everyone has a voice. That’s not easily found elsewhere. “Our graduates are confident learners, critical thinkers and self-starters. Our students are enthusiastic participants in Math, Science and Technology, able learners and contributing team players.” Trafalgar girls excel in all academic arenas and their confidence is contagious.
Information technology is a field in which Trafalgar has invested greatly. Trafalgar Castle School is a complete “laptop school”. This means that from Grade 6 onward, students have laptop computers and I.T. is used in 15 to 25 per cent of course time. This learning tool prepares all the girls for today’s modern age of high-speed communication.
Recently, the school celebrated the opening of its new Design Technology Classroom. The classroom features new computers, high-tech sewing machines for fibrotic art, a Lego robotics table, band saw, drill press, computer programs such as AutoCAD and other equipment. The classroom marries the concepts of the former shop and home economics classes, teaching the girls practical skills.
Seeing is believing. Four times every year, Trafalgar opens its doors to the public. “Explore the beauty of our ornate Elizabethan-style Castle.
