Tutorwiz: An answer for kids with learning challenges
Tutorwiz Education Centre is the answer for students with learning difficulties. Their services include specialized programs for children with ADHD, Apserger’s and Learning Disabilities and all those who struggle with reading, writing and mathematics.
Don Reist, a Special Education Specialist and former teacher with the Durham District School Board, founded Tutorwiz in 2007. The Centre provides students with a non-threatening and fun learning environment in which they are taught in the manner in which they learn best. There are no set programs at Tutorwiz. Tutorwiz offers one-on-one tutoring sessions in reading, writing, mathematics and most other subject areas tailored to the student’s individual needs. The Centre offers one-on-one training sessions on Assistive Technology applications such as, Kuzweil 3000, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Smart Ideas, WordQ, Clicker 5, etc. It also offers Computer Day Camps during the summer and March Break for all students 6 to 14 years of age.
Tutorwiz provides FULL HOMEWORK support. During the tutoring sessions, students are shown how to use computer applications effectively to complete their homework and other schoolwork when applicable. By working with students in the manner in which they learn best,
Tutorwiz helps students overcome their frustration with reading, writing and other schoolwork. This breeds self-confidence and self-esteem.
Tutorwiz encourages parents to attend the individual training sessions on assistive technology applications with their children. By understanding how to effectively use the various computer applications, parents can provide the support which their children often require.
Tutorwiz also conducts workshops on the computer applications for parents and educators.
The Computer Day Camps are educational and 100 per cent FUN! In addition to learning the basics of the various assistive technology computer applications, campers also work with Microsoft Word and become proficient with POWERPOINT. Activities at the camps include:
Creating computer games, learning to operate a computer by voice, designing and creating business cards, keyboarding, a scavenger hunt, watching a movie and creating a movie review, creating a fully animated POWERPOINT presentation including sound and video, creating an animated comic strip, file and folder maintenance and more.
Past camps have been extremely well received by both the campers and their parents.
