Haunted Halloween at the Museum
Today it is a fun night for kiddies, costumes, and candy, but in the 1800s it was not quite the same. All of our customs and traditions trotted out each year are rooted in history, serving as talismans against malevolent spirits.
October has finally set in and the day of tricks and treats is fast approaching. Ghosts and witches are adorning windows and doors, witty tombstones are standing among piles of crispy orange leaves and children of all ages are frantically searching for the perfect costume to wear. If you simply cannot wait for October 31st to arrive, you may just be looking for a little pre-Halloween fun.
This year the pioneers at Pickering Museum Village, will be happy to entertain your anxious Halloween spirit with a new two-hour program. The program is offered on two dates: an evening event after the sun goes down on October 30th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on the morning of Halloween itself, October 31st from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Discover how the pioneers used to celebrate this spooky day. Then, sit down to enjoy some hot chocolate and surprise treats while getting scared silly with village ghost stories. Finally, end your time by creating superb Halloween crafts to hang in your window for trick-or-treaters to admire when the big day finally arrives.
The pioneers at Pickering Museum Village look forward to seeing you at this spooktacular event. See you there…if you dare.
